Lessons

The HD videos can be accessed after logging in, purchasing and following link to the videos.  The lessons are 4 – 6 minutes in length that can be accessed through Vimeo on a desktop computer, laptop, tablet or phone device.

For each lesson, we provide at least one assignment for the kids to practice and apply what they just learned.  They can do the assignment numerous times, using different subjects.

Basic Composition

In this lesson series, we want you to start looking at the world, and all that’s in it, from different perspectives. Can you see an everyday object in a way that is not everyday typical?  Sounds fun already, right? Well, we won’t stop there. We introduce you to a concept that will make a big difference in the overall impact of your images.  And then, we ask you to start thinking about a very important question every time you pick up your camera.

What You Will Need:

  • Your child can use their kids camera, a SLR camera or their device for this lesson series.  Their camera does not need to have manual settings.
  • A jar or bowl.
  • Paper and pencil/marker
  • Creativity, Open Mind and Fun Attitude!

More Compositional Tools

In this lesson series, we are looking for you to add more tools to your photography toolbox.  We’ll introduce you to leading lines and let you see how they can draw your eye right to your subject.  We’ll discuss why and when it’s a good idea to completely fill the frame of your camera with your subject.  And lastly, you’ll learn how can you add framing to a picture to create interest.  All these new techniques are sure to add POW to your images!

Colour

Can you imagine a world without colour? Colour can add so much to your pictures. In this lesson series, you’ll first learn about the colour wheel. You’ll discover how different colours are made and how those colours make us feel differently. Next, we’ll talk about how to combine colours in your images to evoke different moods and feelings. You’ll experiment with both harmonious and complementary colours in your pictures. Get ready for some colour fun!

Starting to Know your Camera

Do you always have your camera on auto settings? It’s time to stop that!! You will start to use the other modes in your camera and really start creating creative and impactful images. YOU start to do the thinking, not your camera. A great introduction to how your camera works is in our Exposure Triangle lesson. Then we’ll focus on learning about depth of field with our Starting to Understand Aperture lesson. And then we’ll really get into action by talking about shutter speed with our Freeze It or Blur It lesson!

What You Will Need:
